It’s not easy to for a model to stand out at a fashion show, but Ikram Abdi did just that when she took to the ramp at the London Fashion Week (LFW) and London Modest Fashion Week (LMFW).
The twenty-one-year-old Somali hijabi, with hazel eyes and a glowing complexion, walked for modest-athleisure brand Under-Rapt at LMFW and for London’s Molly Goddard, which showcased a Fall 2018 collection at LFW.
Ikram began her modelling career for modest-fashion brands, and she got a runway opportunity during the LMFW last year, where she walked alongside famous Somali model Halima Aden.
“Having models from different races, religions, and backgrounds gives hope to younger girls. For instance, a young black Muslim girl can be proud to see someone who looks just like her, in the sense of skin tone and clothing, making it to London Fashion Week,” Ikram told Vogue.me about her participation at LFW.
“One key message that I would put out there is to never stop doing what you love, and to dream big,” she added. “I’ve always wanted to model at London Fashion Week, so if I can do it, [everyone else] can do it too.”
Ikram, who has more than 13,000 followers on Instagram, recently signed an agreement with the Booking Models agency.
