We’re all guilty at times of leaving the organising of an outing or the booking of an event to the very last minute. But fret not, wonderful readers; here are some last-minute ideas for you to get planning, pronto.

 

NEW YEAR’S EVE FIREWORKS AT BURJ KHALIFA

Where? Downtown Dubai

The fireworks display at Burj Khalifa is one of the annual NYE traditions (except for last year, when a light show happened instead). If you’ve never seen this spectacle before, then do it this year!

There will be special viewing platforms set up across Downtown Dubai to see in the New Year, but be warned: you should get there early and avoid taking a car, if you can.

AMR DIAB LIVE AT THE GALLERIA

Where? The Galleria and Promenade on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi

Egyptian superstar Amr Diab will see in the New Year with his fans at this special event, with support comes from Lebanese singer Myriam Fares. Entry to the main concert area is free but limited to 1,500 visitors on a first-come first-served basis. If you’re late, there’s access to the other areas of the Promenade where the concert can be watched via big projection screens.

How much? Free

 

NEW YEAR'S EVE ROYAL GALA 2018

Where? Atlantis, The Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

For more a grown-up, dressy affair, this gala, which will take place by the beach and starts at 7:30 pm, includes entertainment courtesy a 30-piece live band along with a fancy buffet serving everything from lobster and caviar to shawarmas and fajitas. Premium non-alcoholic beverages will be available.

The event welcomes the little ones too; children under 12 have their very own “Under the Sea” area that features arts and crafts, a bouncy castle, an outdoor cinema and a petting zoo.

How much? AED 3,200 per person, AED 2,240 (ages 12–20), under-12s enter for free

 

NEW YEAR’S EVE IN RAK

Where? Al Marjan Island, Ras Al Khaimah

The emirate is planning a record-breaking fireworks spectacular as part of a special festival-style camping experience. Over 12 food trucks will be serving tasty grub throughout the night, and there will be dance music entertainment into the early hours.

How much? AED 50

 

CAMPING IN THE DESERT

Where? Desert campsite, pick-up from meeting point in Al Awir, Dubai

The island famous for hosting the Formula One is set to light up the sky with a stunning fireworks show at midnight. Everyone is welcome to soak up the celebratory atmosphere at the marina while indulging in the food and beverage options nearby.

NEW YEAR’S EVE ON THE LOTUS MEGAYACHT

Where? Starting point is Dubai Marina

Known as the largest and most luxurious mega-yacht in the UAE, the Lotus boasts a 42,000-litre pool, 60-seat theatre, 17 bedrooms and 34 bathrooms! This NYE, the yacht will serve an exclusive five-course dinner with live entertainment.

GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT AT ABU DHABI CORNICHE

Where? Abu Dhabi Corniche

The UAE capital’s corniche will host a 10-minute fireworks display that will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest sentence ever created in fireworks, spelling out “Happy New Year 2019”.

How much? Free

 

GURU RANDHAWA AND ARJUN KANUNGO, LIVE IN DUBAI

Where? Bollywood Park, Dubai Parks & Resorts

Enjoy the rides, then have a fab night with live entertainment courtesy Indian singer Guru Randhawa. The concert is free with park access.

LONG BEACH CAMPGROUND

Where? Long Beach Campground, Bin Majid Beach Hotel, Ras Al Khaimah

For a more glamourous camping experience, Bin Majid Beach Hotel is hosting a “glamping”-style NYE with soft beverages and tapas as well as with a buffet dinner later on. There’ll be plenty of entertainment for children too, with a magic show and lots of activities.

How much? AED 315 per person, AED 157 for kids under 12, while those under 6 enter free
