Reminding us once again that Dubai is bent on shaping the future of high-speed travel, a new video says travel time between Dubai and Abu Dhabi will take only 12 minutes on a Virgin Hyperloop One.
To put this in perspective, it takes about 1.5 hours to cover the same distance today. Take a look at the Hyperloop One’s pod prototype footage, shared by the Dubai Media Office.
.@Seeker: A look at the first pod prototype for #Dubai’s proposed 700mph Hyperloop. Travel time from Dubai to Abu Dhabi would take just 12 minutes, compared to an hour & a half otherwise. That would save an estimated $800 million in lost working hours. pic.twitter.com/itk8v0Fhay

Virgin Hyperloop One, backed by Richard Branson, is one of the initiatives for Dubai Future Accelerators from the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). In February, the RTA confirmed that it had identified the routes for the Hyperloop. The Hyperloop is designed for long distance travel and is not a replacement for Dubai Metro.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Director General of RTA, said in a statement in February: “When introduced in the future, the Hyperloop technology will impact town planning and the availability of parking spaces. It will revolutionize people’s mobility between various destinations in the city, logistical hubs like airports and ports, and shipping patterns.”
Unfortunately, the Hyperloop won’t be ready for another five years. But if you’re like us, you can’t wait for those five years to whizz by so you can experience that 12-minute trip yourself.
